Found one! A building illuminated for Modernism Week!

I should have downloaded the map of the historic buildings chosen to be illuminated for Modernism Week, but I have been busy at night trying restaurants or picking up groceries, so much so that I didn’t think I would have a chance to really explore town looking up all those buildings. Each night, though, I kept my eyes peeled for signs of an illuminated building but so many buildings in downtown Palm Springs are lit up because they’re downtown. I was never sure if the ones I saw were The Ones and, as I said, I had not yet gone to the trouble of downloading the map. (Sorry, Mod Week People.)

Tonight, though, I found one all on my own. And, you know, it was kind of thrilling in that same way little kids get excited about finding Easter eggs. I was just walking along Palm Canyon Drive and–Voila!–there it was! So I took a picture to share with all of you.

Hooray! It’s the Laine Building built in 1961 and is, apparently for lease or for sale, if you know anyone who wants to buy or lease a cool mid-century building.

Since having returned to my little casita, I downloaded the map only to discover that I have been staring at officially illuminated buildings all week. I just didn’t realize it.

Lesson learned. Download map first.

Still, it was kind of fun discovering that big Mod Week logo lit up on the ground in front of that building. No one can take that away.
